Distilled: Cask Strength Expansion

Cask Strength is a mini-expansion for Distilled, designed to add a touch more complexity and variety to the game.

An exciting expansion to help your game of Distilled age better over time! This one brings a variety of things that you can mix-and-match into the game such as a dynamic market, upgraded premium ingredients, and new distillery upgrades and flavors. I’m excited about those premium ingredients in particular, as they cost a little more but come with special powers that trigger which can help you boost your overall scores once you get your engine going. The dynamic market will also interact with the cards, making some cheaper, some more expensive, and putting a certain region’s spirits into demand for the round. If you love Distilled, you won’t want to miss this expansion!

Novo Code

Embark on an exhilarating journey into the frontiers of genetic editing with our cutting-edge game! Showcase unparalleled skill in manipulating the future of genetics and reshape tomorrow in the most electrifying game of genetic prowess.

An interesting game of pressing luck while trying to accumulate the best scoring hand that you can manage. There are cards which score nothing on their own, but require a second copy in order to gain points. But with every draw, there is a chance you will get a Crisis card and have your gameplay end prematurely. Walk the line of risk and reward, and do it better than the rest of your opponents in order to move forward as the best in unlocking genetic potential.

GRIMLORE Profane Truths - Case File #23: Margaret Lane, Widowed Journalist

After her harrowing confrontation with Ghozz’Ra, Margaret Lane returned to Arkham, a town she once thought she knew. But time has fractured around her since that first case. Her dreams are scattered with symbols etched in air, and architecture that rearranges itself when unobserved. She begins to see familiar faces in unfamiliar roles. Whispers of a being known only as the Crawling Chaos pull her attention toward a strange lecture in Arkham’s university district.

Here we go, another great weekly installment of GRIMLORE. And you are going to really, really want to loathe the big baddie in this one: Nyarlathotep. It is going to cause you a host of headaches in the game, as it is going to force you to reroll dice if you don’t roll doubles after it is spawned. And while that might sound annoying enough, it also will clear a Mythos slot if your reroll fails to provide doubles still. So…good luck I suppose? May your initial rolls either bring doubles, or be bad enough that you are happy with that forced reroll!

Dungeon Run: Pocket

A notebook. A deck of cards. A dungeon full of trouble. Grab your favorite pen, pencil, or quill - it’s time to dive into a fast-paced, ever-changing dungeon crawl that fits in your backpack and plays just about anywhere.

There’s a host of great games that are fast-playing and easy to pick up and play shortly after printing them. This designer excels at making them, and this one is no exception. With a variety of maps, combined with randomized monsters to encounter, there’s a lot of replay packed into a small package that is easy to transport and requires a minimum of table space. Grab your writing utensils and get ready to run through some dungeons but beware: you might just get hooked and play it a ton in a short span of time because the gameplay loop for this is quite addictive!

Battle Pages: Kingdom of Chandar, Marching Order 4

Traders in secrets and spices, the inhabitants also enjoy a good song or story.

Our final defense of the Kingdom of Chandar is here, and you’re going to want to bring all you can in order to successfully defend the map. With plenty of water, you’re still going to be wary of those spawning Krillfolk. That means your Spy is a little limited, as you’d normally want them in the right-most column. You’ll probably want to build a Temple as soon as possible, adding a charge to your new units as you build them, and then drop several Barbarians on the map to help cover where your leader cannot attack. With some luck, including failed Respawn rolls when you kill Skeletons, you’ll find success again this week.

Power Creep: Danni, The Docks 2108

New rivalries are ignited, challenging the old regime’s claim to power and breaking the fragile peace.

Sinister. Game changing. This map is going to frustrate you, well, at least in three of the four locations you’re exploring. As is usual with Power Creep, the enemies are designed to obstruct your plans, and this is no exception. The Hawk Nests in here are especially annoying, as they prevent you from collecting items until they have been defeated. And with several in each location, you’re not going to have a lot of items to hold onto for crafting helpful tools.

Dangerous Space: Kwandill, Repair Mission

Private Gin has always been fascinated by the latest weapons and gear. The kwandarian’s current favorite is the tri-blaster.

Your favorite Swiss-army knife of a character is locked and loaded to take on this repair mission. While the rooms will slow him down - dropping movement or attack value until a room is repaired - he should be able to upgrade his gear enough to overcome those hindrances. I love the layout of the ship of the Queen Blob, and how it is going to force you to make some interesting decisions and, well, you also need to hope you roll the right numbers to mark spaces next to these damages with matching numbers. Best of luck, everyone, as this can be a bit tricky to navigate if the dice are determined to work against you!

Game of the Week: Irukandji on sale for $2!

You have swum a long way out, and it is now time to head home. Race back to the beach without coming across one of the most venomous jellyfish in the world: the Irukandji.

It isn’t every game that teaches you something and this one is going to let you learn a little about a very small, yet very dangerous, jellyfish. Add in fun gameplay where players swim to grab a beach ball and make it to the beach, use tiles on their opponents to foil plans, reveal tiles that could contain the dreadful jellyfish, and more, and you have the making of a fun little game. There aren’t many games where the objective to win is to finish a round with 2 VP, but in this one it might just take several plays to get out of negative if your luck runs sour.

Adventurous

Shrouded in myth and untold dangers, the vast ocean calls to those brave enough to explore its secrets. What marvels lie beyond the horizon?

You wanted to go on an adventure, right? This one has you cooperatively building a map as you sail around, uncovering encounters on the seas and discovering marvels. Your task is to build a continuous path, and be able to place cards with restrictions on what can and cannot be covered as you set sail, which makes sense because you cannot backtrack along the seas and then teleport back to a new place. One of the coolest parts comes from your decision each turn on taking the top card of the deck, or the unknown bottom card, as part of exploring to build out that map. The game comes with a ton of ways to modify your deck in order to adjust the challenge so hop on board and check this one out.

Adventurous: Forgotten Worlds Expansion

Ancient tales, passed down over the ages, tell of wondrous places lost to time, far across the sea. Soon you’ll add your own chapter to these legends.

This little expansion adds a new ship, as well as five new map/marvel cards to your gameplay experience. The ship is interesting, as it changes the dynamics of the journey effects, meaning you will have to rethink some of the ways in which you explore. Plus it comes with a mode to just add in the marvels into the mix, staying close to the base game’s gameplay and scoring, while also offering an Epic Mode to mix it all in with new scoring conditions to accomplish in order to emerge victorious. I am particularly pleased to see the inclusion of Niflheim as a marvel to explore…you won’t want to pass this one up!
