PNP Arcade is closing its webstore on January 29th

Hey everyone, we are here to share some news. PNP Arcade will be closing its web store on January 29th. This was a tough decision and we appreciate all of the kind words that have come in from the community already.

Everyone will ask why, and the reality is that running a business like this takes a lot of work, and at this juncture in our lives, it is not feasible to proceed with the moving parts of running a webstore.

But we want PNP Arcade to continue even if it takes a new shape.

Information on the next iteration of PNP Arcade will be available at PNPArcade.com on January 30th. If you'd like to catch our first actions after the store closes, come back to the site or follow along here: https://substack.com/@pnparcade

We know you probably have a lot of questions and here are the big ones:

Can I download my files again after the store closes?
No, the files will be unavailable. You should have files in your email, please make sure you download them before we close on January 29th.

Will the designers and publishers make their PNP files available elsewhere?
We hope so. There are a few resources for this already in place, and we hope to be able to share information as we get it.

Will the PNP Arcade Publishing games (Dungeon Pages, etc) continue, especially the year long adventures that are currently in progress?
Yes they will, and we sent instructions out today to everyone that is already in progress on a year long adventure. We will share any news on the next games with everyone as they develop, as well as where we decide to sell them going forward.

Before we go, a huge thanks is needed to everyone involved.

To all of the publishers and designers who, over the years have submitted their games and products. We couldn't have done it without them and our heartfelt thanks goes out to them.

To all of you, the players, thank you for the ongoing support of PNP Arcade, we enjoyed hearing how people came into the board game community through PNP Arcade, who played with their families, and accessed games that they couldn't get in other regions. This has all been very rewarding on our side.

And to everyone that has helped us on the back end with keeping this going at a steady pace with very few hiccups along the way. We appreciate it all.

It's New Game Friday David Wiley (Cardboard Clash) is here to tell us about the new games.

Here’s what is new this week:
  • Koven

  • Unkraut

  • Dungeon Pages: Underboss, Stunning Spider, Bordertown

  • Battle Pages: Jendohan, Marching Order 4

Koven

The only thing more powerful than a witch, a wizard, or a dragon is the combined sorcery of all three. While these spellcasters and fire breathers are an ominous force alone, a koven of witches, wizards, and dragons can together wield unspeakable magick. It is up to you to unite these divided mythics and create the most powerful koven the magical world has ever seen.

An exciting game of drawing and playing cards strategically into a 4x4 grid in front of you. There’s a lot to consider as you lay down cards, since rows and columns will score you points for having 3+ of a matching type or 3+ of a single matching color out of the four cards present. The game also comes loaded with two expansions to add unique experiences into your Koven experience once you have the base game down. Both of these add new goals to try and accomplish during your gameplay.

Unkraut

Unkraut is a tile-laying game, in which players grow a shared field of weeds, while at the same time betting on the strongest weeds in their personal wild growth area to score the most points at the end.

An interesting little tile-laying game which features a tough decision each and every turn. You’ll draw two tiles, and place one in the shared field while keeping the other face-down. All players will score based on certain conditions in the shared field at the end of the game, and each type of weed is looking for different scoring criteria. However, your score is multiplied by the number of that weed you’ve collected face-down across the game, meaning the tile you keep is perhaps even more important than the one you place out to try and help you (and your opponent) score as many points as possible with its placement…assuming you WANT that tile type to score a lot of points...

Dungeon Pages: Underboss, Stunning Spider, Bordertown

The gray and the dull beings shall be made shiny and new if they are willing to undergo a slight metamorphosis.

This week comes a really fascinating boss, who has a lot of tricks in her web. The Troll is a handy monster, since it can cross out keys in the dungeon when it activates. The Maneuver ability is excellent, since it lets you reroll any one die per M you have in the grid. And, of course, there’s stinging and dealing poison damage. But the best might be the Underwater trap, which can make a group of adjacent traps together. When a hero activates it, they take a damage and 1 damage to any other heroes already adjacent to that Underwater trap group. Talk about nasty!

Battle Pages: Jendohan, Marching Order 4

Riders of the Pegasi have been fierce defenders from invaders for generations.

The kingdom is under attack once more by the Twin Dragons, and this week we’ll look at the forces you can help muster to your defense. The Warhorse is mighty, being able to charge an enemy up to 2 spaces away. The Archer and the Pegasus are great to attack flying enemies, and they are supplemented by the Catapult which also can attack flying units and gets a boost in attack if they are in mountains. Sadly, only the BOSS is flying when you have ample ways to deal with that Keyword. The new star this week is the Rampart, which has Blocking which prevents an attack from hitting a unit on the other side, even if the unit is within the enemy’s range. Placing these well will frustrate the attacks of the boss this week!

Button Shy Game of the Week: The Daily Weather (B&W Kickstarter Preview)

Forecasting the weather is both an art and a science. As the new head meteorologist of your local station, show off your skill by creating the most accurate forecast each day.

This is the most fascinating concept for a solo game I’ve ever seen. Sure, there’s been an ongoing series of players trying to play Friday on every Friday during a year, but even that isn’t a DAILY thing they can do. This, on the other hand, provides a brand new challenge each and every day of the year! And it certainly isn’t too late to begin your own Day 1 of 365-days playing this in a row. Join the vibrant Discord community, get this solo game onto your table, and have a blast trying to do a new puzzle each and every day.

Game of the Week: Forest Floor

In Forest Floor, you and your friends hike into the woods to soak up the last few weeks of summer. You spot wildlife, hunt for bugs, pick berries, and marvel at the beauty of the forest floor. Each critter and plant has a role to play in this puzzle as old decay spurs new growth. Whoever finds the most diverse and vibrant section of forest wins.

There’s a lot of interesting game packed into this one. Not only is there a really cool and innovative way of rolling dice for the round - dice leapfrog each other, so each round you only roll 1 die and add the two together - but each total provides options for effects and symbols to trigger on your board. Layers of decisions are always a great thing, and this can play up to a very, very large number of players or down as low as providing 2 different ways to play solitaire. It even comes with a special head-to-head board for those playing with two, a very important feature for those who tend to only have a single person they regularly game with.
