It's New Game Friday! David Wiley (Cardboard Clash) is here to tell us about the new games.
Here’s what is new this week:
- Crazy Cultists
- Doctor Smuglefreud’s Marvelous Machine
Doctor Smuglefreud’s Marvelous Machine
Your mentor, the brilliant but absent-minded Doctor Fritz Smuglfreud, has brought his breakthrough modular perpetual motion generator to reveal at the World Summit of Invention and Technology. But he had to disassemble it to fit it on the train...and now he has wandered off, as usual, leaving only a small group of former apprentices to manage the demo booth! The summit is about to begin! The crowds are approaching! You are Smuglfreud’s only hope! Can you manage to master the mysterious manifestations of your mentor’s marvelous machine?
How about this for an interesting little 1-2 player game? Not only are you managing your drawing of cards from multiple sources, but your turns have a timer. Well, assuming you use it. You get until your opponent says “marvelous machine” 10 times or else they steal your turn from you. That’s one way to deal with game length, right! This one can last up to 20 rounds, and has plenty of player interaction with the ability to steal your opponent’s stuff while working to assemble yours to maximize points. Cards can flip, turn, and all sorts of other fun changes that alter the dynamic of your hard work in a clever little game.
A spelling game that is sure to capture the attention.
Forget Scrabble and Boggle. Those are the old word games. Now you have ones that are far more clever, such as Spellwards, which uses cards that contain both a letter and a number on them. To play a card, you must say a word that begins with the letter on the first pile and ends with the same letter as the card on the second pile. The catch? It also much be the length shown on the second pile. If you want to expand your vocabulary, this one is sure to be a blast to play as everyone tries to be the first to play a card.
The devilishly fun game for the whole family!
An interesting little game where you are playing cards to collect candle tokens to complete your pentagram. You can play Hijinx cards on your opponents to interfere with their plans, or play Favor cards in order to make progress toward your own goals. With short rules, multiple variants, and tons of player interaction opportunities this game is certain to hit all the right notes with your gaming group.

Game of the Week: Handsome for just $1
You are invited to an evening of wordplay.
In Handsome, you will create words using a common pool of letters and personal letter cards from your hand.
However, to score points, you're not only trying to create the longest word, you're trying to create words using the most cards of a single suit.
A clever twist on word games, Handsome has you trying to balance word length with the suits you are aiming for to maximize your point scoring potential. This game is unique in that the cards lack vowels, they are free to use with your consonants to create your words. With a clever mix of each player having a hand of cards for themselves and some common cards anyone can use, this is sure to deliver a very unique experience.
