Siege of Valeria + Campaign Expansion

For more than a month, the Shadow Kingdoms have surrounded your Fortress at Valeria’s southern border with hordes of monsters and mighty engines of war. The Queen of Valeria has sent word that her forces are all engaged in the battle for the North and she cannot provide assistance. Your supplies are nearly exhausted and your starving and suffering citizens are close to despair. You’ve rallied your soldiers and holy troops to meet the monster-kin’s latest surge, but if you cannot break the siege in seven days, your Fortress will fall and the southern border of the realm will crumble before the onslaught of monsters. Do you have what it takes to defend the castle?

An exciting card and dice game with an intriguing flow that is sure to keep you playing round after round, fending off enemy armies and their siege equipment. If you enjoy trying to survive against long odds, coming up with clever ways to allocate resources, and a simple yet rewarding gameplay loop, you’ll want to make sure you check out the latest in the series of Valeria games. Not only is there an excellent game here, but being able to add on a campaign mode sweetens the pot, ensuring that you have ever-increasing stakes to struggle against time and time again.

Battle Pages: Kingdom of Willowtown, Marching Order 4

The spiraling towers provide an impressive view of the tree-filled kingdom.

This week we conclude the Kingdom of Willowtown and, as with the previous installments, we’ll finish by looking closer at the units you can recruit to help Freyla to vanquish the fiendish foes. All of these are familiar, having come around on previous kingdoms, but it is worth looking at them! The Archer and the Pegasus will help you manage the flying units that litter the map. Knights are mighty, targeting adjacent enemies. The Warhorse can charge in a straight line up to 2 spaces away, giving you some extra flexibility to hit the units. But the MVP might be your Encampment, which boosts all adjacent units with +1 Damage.

Power Creep: Yaya, The Docks 2113

Some survivors still see a path forward and are willing to sacrifice for the greater good. Will it be enough? Only time will tell.

This week we see the return of interesting threats to tackle. This time it is the Trance Cultist, which has a low trigger number but only triggers after you mark a space next to it. You may be thinking that’s going to make it easy to just blitz a path through quickly, avoiding them and avoiding damage in the process. Well, each structure forces you to move past at least two of them, triggering that damage. But furthermore, the Leader inside the Movie Theater gets boosted for each undefeated Trance Cultist in all structures – meaning it could do up to 17 attack if you skip killing them all. Needless to say, I don’t recommend that approach…

Dangerous Space: Jareem, Repair Mission

His father was 1st in his class. Some would say due to the species’ longer lifespan. Still, expectations are high for young Rendor.

Jareem might have a bit of a tough time with this one, as neither his movement nor his attack are anything to write home about. His defense is easily his superior Gear Track, but you don’t need to write this off as impossible just yet! Jareem will be able to make up for lost time with his Shortcut skill, trimming off the highest value from your path – which should help make up for his small movement getting trimming in two different rooms.

GRIMLORE: Hellen Wellshire, Mythos Librarian

October rain slicks the stones of Brackenmere, where villagers whisper of a White Lady drifting above the drowned millpond. Helen Wellshire arrives with an ash smelling coat and a travel case of unorthodox instruments. The legend tells of betrayal, a candle, a bridge, and a silence that invites footsteps. Parish records omit a name, as if ink recoiled. Children fold paper ladies and float them, listening for a single knock beneath the water. Hellen notes an unbroken ring of salt around the bridge stump and a faint mark like a sigil inside, familiar from a springtime file in her notes.

The cool thing about Hellen is her ability to acquire gear with XP at any time, making it easier to get the tools you need to tackle her foes. Whether you want to grab the Shadowstring Bow, the Planar Gyroscope, or the Cipher of Lost Eons, she’s able to fill those needs at a moment’s notice. You’ll find a trio of shrines on the map, and completing the word for them will gain you control of the shrine, which helps you when you battle the Restless Bride at the end.

Button Shy Game of the Week: Lands of Amazement

Creating fun takes hard work! As an aspiring amusement park designer you’ll need to build your portfolio by designing smaller parks before you can take on a top-tier megapark.

This game is bound to be a nice, solo brainburner type of game. You’re building amusement parks over the course of four rounds, using polyomino shapes on your cards to match them to the objective for the round. All of these serve as a preface to the real end game of this solo gem: the Megapark phase. In this, you’re using all of the cards in your Reserve stack to try and recreate the Megapark shown on the goal card, trying to get it to also have the same number of icons shown from the earlier rounds. This doesn’t do the game justice, though. If you enjoy solo games that require some thinking and planning, you won’t want to miss out on Lands of Amazement.

Game of the Week: The Cursed Menagerie on sale for just $4!

You are a gifted individual, imbued with the ability to detect and dispel evil spirits. Haunted objects are your speciality! Once again you’ve been called to the home of a citizen whose brush with the supernatural has left them shaken and desperate for help. WHile you certainly value your role in the community as caretaker and guardian, part of you knows there is another appeal to your line of work. You like to collect these dangerous objects. Something about locking them up safely in your vault makes the world feel just a bit safer, and more orderly. And that’s good, right?

A fun little game of rolling dice to collect items and vanquish ghosts. The neat thing is you’ll be able to see the items in their three tiers, and you know which tier of ghost is in each spot but not which ghost until you work toward acquiring an item. As you unlock more parts of the item, you reveal more of the ghost abilities until, at the end, you get to take down the ghost itself. Manage your resources carefully in order to make it through all 6 items or, if you are really bold, run the campaign to try and get even more items without losing all your health. It even comes with a shorter mode that lets you set up and play even faster - you won’t want to miss this haunting good time.
