New games for Jan 3, 2020 - Handsome in the Southampton Ragnarok

Jason Tagmire

Here's what's new this week:

  • Four Against Darkness: Four Against Ragnarok
  • Handsome
  • Timestamp 1912: Southampton

The monstrous children of Loki, the Mischief-Maker, strain against their bonds, and writhe and twist and plot to end the rule of the gods. Ragnarök, the destruction of the gods and all of the Nine Realms is coming. It is merely a question of when, and for how long it can be held off.

Based on the highly acclaimed Four Against Darkness series of RPG-lite dungeon delving adventures by Andrea Sfiligoi, this is a standalone solitaire or co-operative pen-and-paper game for 1 to 4 players. You don’t need any other books. No GM is needed! All you need is a pencil, two regular dice, this book, and the luck of the gods!

Handsome is a print and play wordgame for 2 to 6 players that consists of only 18 consonant cards. Featuring a unique combination of word building and set collection, players will try to use the most letters of each suit (bow ties, necklaces and bolos) to gain points. Each round, players must come up with one word using a combination of the 5 shared cards on the table, as well as the cards in their hand.

This is the 49th game in the Button Shy Wallet Line. What sets Handsome apart from the rest of our line is its range of accessibility. This is a game you can pull out at the holidays with family or at your local game night. There's the familiarity of the word game, but mixed with a unique scoring system that allows multiple paths to victory. And as always, it's pocket-sized, and just an arms reach away from diving into the next game.

Timestamp is an episodic adventure game in which two players face off to unlock the mysteries of time travel for the human race. Each postcard installment takes players to new times and locations with unique challenges and goals. Every game will be different as players manage their teams of scientists and resources to perform one of the four actions unique to each card. The first player to meet the scenarios goal wins. Follow the clues, master your device, and unlock time itself!

The game of the week is Retail Rejects!

In Retail Rejects, based on the Flip the Table gaming podcast, you will compete to “impress” your friends with your collection of cheesy, weird and obscure board games. Will you focus on roll-and-move games? (Surprise!) Or perhaps build an imposing collection of games based on TV shows? To win, you’ll have to build your collection wisely, take some risks, travel all the way to Soviet Russia—and maybe even win... 10,000 points!
