New Games for Dec 10, 2021 - Good Shields of the Pixie Templar

Jason Tagmire

It's New Game Friday! David Wiley (Cardboard Clash) is here to tell us about the new games.

But first, thank you all for joining us over the Black Friday weekend!

Here’s what is new this week:

        • Be Good
        • Court of the Pixie King
        • The Coming of the Dark Templar

        Be Good

Christmas is coming and this year you did not behave yourself again.

You discovered that your name is on Santa's naughty list and, unless you come up with a plan, you will get nothing at Christmas.

Break into Santa’s lab and look for his list to correct it. Be careful to not get caught by the elves who sleep after a long day at work.

If you want a festive game that lets you read lists, sneak through a workshop, and battle elves, then this is the game you’ve been looking for. You’ll be searching for three scrolls and candles to read them by, and then exit the board on the Finish space. Battling isn’t going to be as easy as you think, though, as you throw bullets at the elf’s box, trying to get them to land inside the box to hit the elf. If that doesn’t sound like fun, I don’t know what will.

        Court of the Pixie King

Enter the realm of the fairies, both bright and beautiful and dark and foreboding. A battle for the rule of all feydom is fought by the benevolent Seelie and the malign Unseelie. Who will win the crown and what role will your party play?

All sorts of fun goodies to be found in here just in time for the holidays. An exciting adventure for level 1+ adventurers, and what you really want: fairies and the fey. There’s fairy lore, Gnome expert skills, a new reaction, some dungeon tile sets, two new classes, more monsters and spells and magic items. Want some toadstool rings, tree hollows, and enchanted mushrooms in your adventures? Those are here for your use! Oh, and Druid lovers will want to get this for some new spells to enhance your favorite class!

The Coming of the Dark Templar

For their crimes they were judged, tortured, blinded, killed. But the dark forces they worship make sure they won’t stay dead forever. They are coming to even the score. They are blind but they can hear your heartbeat.

An exciting expansion for Alone Against Fear, this one has you searching for clues somewhere in Europe. This is a haunting scenario that may, or may not, give you the vibe of facing down medieval Nazgul as they are blind, using other senses to track you. One of the neat touches here is that the weapons you might find are rusty, so there’s a likelihood it can break when getting used. If you haven’t picked up Alone Against Fear, this might be a great motivation to check it out as this scenario just sounds cool.

Game of the Week: Shields Up

Your spaceship is locked in battle with a dangerous enemy! Take charge of your ship and launch your attack. But most importantly keep the shields up or face certain destruction!

A quick little 18-card game with two players competing against each other. You’re trying to take down their shields and deal a single hit of damage in order to win. To do that, you’ll maximize your use of two actions each turn to draw cards, purchase ones from the market, play a card as a shield face-down, or use it for the item/event on the card. Outmaneuver your opponent one action at a time, and always be sure to keep an eye on your shields because one slip up is all it takes to lose it all.
