Super Space Battle Frigate Assault

Your ship, an assault frigate class ship, has been deployed in the Battle of Border Zone 007 when you received an urgent & coded transmission from HQ: Commander, we intercepted a coded enemy transmission that an enemy battle cruiser class ship has just been armed with neutron torpedoes & are headed toward USF Support Space Station Jesselton. The station is heavily fortified, but against these types of torpedoes, it only takes 3 hits to destroy the base. The enemy transponder signature has been sent to your ship and you must track this enemy ship down and destroy it as we cannot let this station fall or all will be lost. We are counting on you Commander. Godspeed.

An interesting solitaire game where you’re going to jockey to get into position to attack the enemy ship and destroy it before it accomplishes its mission. Each turn is going to see your foe positioned somewhere along the radar, and based on where they are in relation to you will determine what you can accomplish to make an impact on the turn. Weather through events, attacks, and more as you defend your base in this solo game. Packed with great art, you’ll want to check this one out if you enjoy solo gaming.

Pizza Slices of Death

Pizza: Slices of Death is a humorous wargame for two players, played with counters (or miniatures) over a poster/map representing a pizza cut in 8 slices. Play time is 30-45 minutes. This is an area-movement, card-based wargame using a standard poker deck for activation, movement and combat. Two warbands of mushrooms, together with special troops/ingredients such as black olives (ninjas), cherry tomatoes (vampires), magic onions, chili peppers, mozzarella (broken terrain), potatoes, and the dread pineapple-on-pizza (that has caused the hospitalization of not fewer than 3 Italian playtesters) struggle for dominance over a large pizza. The download includes English and Italian language rulebooks, a large poster map (a pizza on a stereotypical red-and-white Italian tablecloth) and a counter sheet with enough counters and markers for both players. Not included, a standard poker deck.

An interesting little wargame with an appetizing theme, you aren’t going to want to sleep on this entry. Even if wargames are not your thing, there’s a lot of easy appeal in here as you maneuver your mushrooms to deal death to the opposing side and lay claim to the pizza as being YOUR domain. Spawn spores, pineapple, and more to be able to boost your options along the way. Play cards, based on value and suit, to help you attack, defend, move, and make new pieces. Do you have what it takes to dominate the pie on your table, or will you get your crust stuffed by the other side and have to walk away in defeat?

Battle Pages: Kingdom of Therax, Marching Order 4

Masters of crystal magic. It’s no wonder that their home is under attack from plunderers.

This week we finish our tour in Therax with a focus on the enemies that can be spawned. If you’ve been playing along each week, these will already be familiar to you, but bear with me! Last week we emphasized the Catapault and the Pegasus in particular because they allow you to attack flying units, and you're going to want that because of the Giant Bat and the Red Dragon foes. Both of them fly, and in particular you’re likely to hate the Giant Bats. Why? Because they also have a Throw ability, which means your unit is defeated if they take any damage from the Giant Bat. That, my friends, is sheer brutality.

Power Creep: Earlene, The Docks 2111

Disturbing reports from other regions tell of settlements completely engulfed by darkness - someone has to do something.

One of the things to balance along the edge of a knife, at least in some plays of Power Creep, is your progress on the Radiation track. Get too much progress on there, and you are setting yourself up for an instant failure before you can complete the mission. Well, every time you attack a Radiated Spider in this mission, you increase progress on that track. If that wasn’t enough to worry about, if you attack the leaders you also need to roll a Radiation check. Why not kick Earlene while she’s down, right?

Dangerous Space: Dekkar, Deliver Mission

Dekkar was trained by a secretive sect of martial warriors whose code devotes each to a life of daring missions and quests.

Here we are, the mission where Dekkar has to deliver a kit, and as you are moving you take extra damage. Good news? You can assign damage to the kit. Bad news? Clever Hunters wait to ambush you along your route. If you’ve forgotten, they shut down your Defense gear when they trigger on a 6, which means you’re going to be soaking up more damage on top of the boosted damage from the kit. Pray you don’t roll many 6’s…

GRIMLORE Profane Truths: Case File #27 - Bernd Elotz, Federal Agent

Bernd Klotz, a federal agent with a reputation for solving the unsolvable, never expected Dunwich to leave a scar deeper than any bullet. He still remembers the reek of gun oil mingled with old rot as he pulled the trigger in that cellar. When a shattered tablet from Sarnath arrived in the evidence crate, etched with sigils matching his Dunwich case, Bernd knew he was being called again. This time, he brings not just his service revolver and Thompson but a resolve hardened by the knowledge that some threats can’t be buried by jurisdiction, or firepower.

We have a new challenge this week, and these opponents mean business! They interact with your Attributes under certain triggers, which is never something you’ll be excited to absorb losses on. The Animate Effigy deals Necrotic Damage to your highest attribute equal to the damage you take, and when that’s not possible you suffer sanity loss. The Sleepless, on the other hand, will have you test Strength and, when you fail, will have you clear an attribute slot or lose sanity. Oof. You’re going to want to make good use of Bernd’s equipment to rush through this one before your attributes end up wasting away alongside your sanity…

Dionysia: Muse of Tragedy Expansion

Melpomene, the Greek Muse of tragedy, has come to the festival to bless the playwrights with inspiration!

I love the little expansions that just shuffle in and away you go with no real changes to the game’s setup or how it plays. This expansion brings 6 cards, each of which containing a Mask element. These are great and you’re going to want to collect them all, because they are wild when evaluating patterns, making it so much easier to hit those scoring conditions. However, the Masks do NOT count for scoring effects when looking at specific elements, so there’s a small downside to grabbing them all. Shuffle this expansion right on in and enjoy the new elements within Dionysia!

Dionysia: Soliloquy

The first play at Dionysia is always performed by renowned playwright and actor Thespis. Can you write a play to rival the legendary tragedian?

An interesting and simple solo mode to challenge your Dionysia gameplay mastery! Thespis has easy-to-remember turns where it takes the card to the right of what you took, meaning you get back to your own turns faster and without having to dedicate thinking space toward the opponent. However, the instant effects become dangerous when Thespis grabs one, triggering the top card of the Tragedy deck - the six cards in this expansion which are going to impact things in unique ways. Overcome the tragic effects being flung by Thespis to be Blessed by Dionysus.

Game of the Week: Tides on sale for just $2!

Take a stroll along the beach. Feel your toes digging into the sand. Discover a world of beautiful objects just waiting to be found. Whether you’re picking up driftwood for your sculptures or sea glass for earrings, let Mother Nature be your muse as you follow the tides.

Roam the shore, searching for objects to score points. This game has an interesting concept with the two phases: low tide and high tide. In each of them you can take cards and score cards. However, the cards you can draw vary based on the tide, and once taken they are stuck in your hand until you score them. If you like making smart choices with your limited actions each turn, and a race to a set number of points to end the game, then you won’t want to miss out on this little 18-card game - complete with a solo mode.
