Fliptown: The Specialists Mini-Expansion

Even legends need a little help. With this mini-expansion to Fliptown, you get to hire a Specialist to help you excel in one of the regions. Each Specialist can unlock even more bonus actions depending on their requirements, but they don't come cheap. At the start of each round, the fee to retain them increases, so you'll need to decide how long to keep them on the payroll or tell them to hit the trail.

This little expansion adds 8 cards to your game of Fliptown, allowing you a choice each game of a Specialist to use to accomplish additional bonus actions over the course of the gameplay. However, there is a price to keeping this specialist and it increases based upon the round number. Knowing when to dismiss the Specialist is part of the strategy in here, although you'll also deduct 5 stars from your final score just by using this expansion.

Fliptown: New Frontier Expansion

The New Frontier beckons with a fistful of opportunities to make your fortune way out west!

An exciting new expansion that adds a whole host of things into your game experience, including a new mode to play. With this expansion, you can play the Single Barrel mode where you just use the new boards for the game. However, you can also go for Double Barrel and use both sets of board, ricocheting from one region to the next as you advance through the game and gain bonuses. The expansion also has a handy chart at the back of the rules showing compatibility between expansions and certain cards which may or may not function well with the New Frontier game experience.

The Lost Village

A Hellgate has opened near your once peaceful village and your people is under attack by nightmarish creatures. You have only a handful of heroes to repel the demonic forces and protect your home.

A relatively short game for 1-2 players, this is going to have you teaming up to try and defeat the monsters in the game. Out of the 13 Monsters in the deck, you need to vanquish 12 of them from your draw pile and hands to win the game. However, the Monsters can damage the village and destroy things to cost you the game. Because players are forced to play a card of the opposing type as their partner each round, there will be some interesting push-and-pull as you try and collectively navigate through the waves of hordes of these monsters.

 Alone Against Fear: Creepy Carnival

Funfairs, amusement parks, and freak shows are a staple of horror. For some reason, the places where we go to have fun also play on our fears of what is different and unknown.

This is a fun themed book for this time of year, allowing you to explore a carnival. This can be a standalone adventure, or can be part of a campaign. Youll have a lot of areas to explore, and just enter knowing you can never make any part of this place a safe place. You might want to avoid getting some new conditions: Trapped and Lost. Those are as bad as they sound. Fans of 4AF are going to absolutely want to check this out, and if youve not delved into the game before, this could absolutely be a perfect launching point to dive in and grab this with the core game.

Battle Pages: Kingdom of Fang Valley, Marching Order 1

Villagers are protected from the elements by the Fang Range but hunted by their namesake.

Here is a new kingdom, and this one might be my favorite one yet. With this map, your hero is Rigel and he looks to mean business with his massive war axe. You'll see that in action with his ability, as he does more than just attack enemies in a diagonal line. He also gets +1 attack for each undefeated enemy on the map, helping him to really help rescue you late in the game when you make use of him.

Power Creep: Gemma – Uptown 2131

New communities, strange when compared to the old ways, completely normal, now.

Gemma is here and is working her way through the Uptown area. This place is completely overrun with some Scary Harvesters, which sound a lot more intimidating than they seem. But there are a LOT of them, so completely avoiding them might be a challenge, and the Leaders will trigger them all to attack when you mark next to the Leader. Thankfully, their attack is low...until you start to defeat these Harvesters along the way...

Dangerous Space: Thaydiss, Deliver Mission

'Lightbulb' has earned his seat on the dropship. His willingness to cold-dive without a vacuum seal has made him a respected member of the crew.

Thaydiss has his work cut out for him this week, as one of his Threats is going to annoy you endlessly. Yes, the Cocky Psychic returns and is still making it so your dice are all reduced by 1 when it hasn't been attacked. Of course, he can combat that with his Combat Expert skill, but you may not care quite as much about it on this one. I guess it depends on how much damage you're soaking up as you rush the kit to mark its delivery space...

GRIMLORE Profane Truths – Case File #44: Clara Beaumont, Mythos Journalist

After Detroit, Clara Beaumont's dreams turned sonorous. Harmonies echoed from impossible vaults, always ending in silence that pressed like a tomb. She followed fragments a whispered hymn, a monastery's name, the Naine Rouge's laughter until she stood before the Ulrich Monastery in the Harz Mountains. The locals spoke of echoes without voices, monks who sang until their throats rotted black. Inside, Clara senses something immense beneath the stone listening. The Naine's pact changed her, tuning her to secret frequencies. Now, Clara must descend into the quiet abyss and confront a chorus that predates language, before its silent hymn ends all sound and thought.

Wow, there are some sinister threats this week awaiting Clara in the GRIMLORE case file. The Thirteenth Clara is pretty mean, having you test an attribute and then reduce the chosen attribute. However, when you succeed you can bump an attribute of your choice by one and take one less damage. Failure, though, causes you to use an item's usage slot or 2 sanity. However, the Confessor if far more sinister, making you test and -1 that attribute and, when you fail, that attribute's score becomes a zero. Ouch!

Button Shy Game of the Week: Hyperstar Run: Salvage Mode Expansion

Haste makes waste: pick up spent parts left behind from your failed runs and turn that trash into useful tech.

I love little expansions that tweak the game in a meaningful, yet easy-to-navigate way. This is one such expansion, adding a small side deck of 5 cards. When you die on a run (and you will die), place one of these cards below the level you died on. When you beat that level in the future, you claim that card beneath it and trigger its effect. This is a small, yet impactful change that will hopefully help you hit those higher scores.

Hyperstar Run: Trapped Expansion

As if the Hyperstar base wasn't already dangerous, the enemies have set traps throughout the level. Watch your step or you'll end up in serious trouble!

An absolutely sinister expansion in the best way possible. The baddies at Hyperstar base have gotten smarter, leaving traps to lure you to your demise. Now there's a strong risk-reward element to hitting combos, as if you are mid-combo and moving onto a face-down card, you reveal a trap card instead of that face-down card and there's a 50/50 chance you're triggering the trap and its negative effect on yourself. If you want a greater challenge in Hyperstar Run, this is absolutely the expansion for you!

Game of the Week: Hyperstar Run on sale for just $2!

You grab the well-worn controller and load your latest save. This is it: the final level. With only 4 runs left to escape the Hyperstar base and beat the game, you better get moving.

If you ever played old platformer games, this title seeks to channel that nostalgia of playing on repeat to try and overcome a challenging level. The coolest parts of this game come from two mechanics: Press and Combos. The Press allows you to use previously-defeated card in the level for its button in the corner, helping supplement your hand. The Combos are even cooler, with lines running from an enemy off the card and, if the lines align on the next card there’ll be just a single button needed to press to advance past that card. Nothing is more satisfying than pulling off some wicked combos!
